About this piece

A solitary bare tree rises from the shoreline, its irregular branches set against a broad, pale sky. In the distance, the repeated supports of a long bridge offer a measured counterpoint to the tree’s twisting form, while monochrome tones draw attention to bark, rock, and water.

The story

I framed the tree to one side so the open sky could hold the space between its branches and the bridge. My eye kept moving from the uneven trunk to that distant line of repeating supports, two very different structures sharing the same shore. A shallow pool caught the pale sky at my feet. I wanted to keep that small reflection in the photograph, a quiet opening in the roughness of the ground.
