About this piece

A long pier draws a strong diagonal from the left edge toward the horizon, its weathered supports standing against softly blurred water. Rendered in black and white, the scene contrasts the crisp textures of sand and seaweed with the flowing tones of sea and sky.

The story

I framed the pier from the sand, letting its length lead my eye away from shore. At my feet, small strands of seaweed held their place while the water softened around the concrete supports. A passing figure on the railing became a faint trace, almost absorbed by the sky. I wanted to keep that difference in the photograph: the weight of what stays, and the lightness of what moves through.
