Mike Gedj isolates a branching plant against a luminous green field, bringing its red stems and finely veined leaves into view. Selective focus draws attention to the smaller leaves at the right, while broad foreground foliage softens into overlapping planes of bronze and rose.

The story

I followed the thin red stem across the frame until my eye settled on the small leaves beneath the bud. Their veins held the same crimson as the branch, a delicate continuity I wanted to keep visible. Behind them, the surrounding greenery became a wash of light. I left that open space in the photograph so the plant could stretch into it, each leaf distinct without needing to fill the frame.
