A Chorus Of Gold

About this piece

Yellow flowers and closed buds rise on slender stems against deep shadow and broad washes of blurred orange. Bright light traces the fine hairs along their stalks and illuminates the layered petals, while crossing diagonals give this botanical study a quiet, buoyant rhythm.

The story

In early September, yellow petals hold the light above a field of orange blur. Some flower heads open toward the viewer; others turn aside, offering only their narrow profiles. Closed buds reach just as high, their edges silvered against the darkness. A tiny winged visitor hangs beside an upper bloom, giving the still arrangement a passing pulse of life.
