A Crown Of Light

About this piece

Seen from below, a coconut palm rises diagonally into a radiating canopy of green fronds and clustered fruit. Warm sunlight reveals the trunk’s ridged texture and turns the leaf stems yellow-gold, while blue sky opens between the finely spaced leaflets. Dry russet fronds add a contrasting layer to this luminous botanical composition.

The story

In the light of early April, the eye follows the rough trunk upward and leaves the ground behind. Coconuts gather close to the crown, shaded beneath long green fronds. Sunlight catches the stems and the curled edges of older leaves, bringing gold and copper into the canopy. Between these overlapping forms, small openings of blue offer somewhere for the gaze to rest.
