About this piece

Scarlet heliconia bracts alternate along a central axis, their pointed curves set against a luminous yellow-green background. Backlighting reveals fine surface textures, while diagonal green stems cross the lower right of the tightly cropped composition. A tiny ant on a bract’s rim lends scale to these monumental botanical forms.

The story

November light passes through the scarlet bracts, turning their thin edges bright. An ant traces the narrow rim of one red curve, a small dark presence against the glow. Green stems cut across the frame like rails, while the foliage beyond dissolves into yellow and olive. For a moment, the whole scene gathers around this slender path through color.
