About this piece

A bare coastal tree extends its twisting branches across an expanse of blue sky and shallow turquoise water. Weathered wood, exposed roots, and vivid shoreline vegetation give the foreground a tactile density, balanced by the low, level horizon.

The story

I framed the tree against the blue so that each branch had room to unfold. My eye followed the wood from the exposed roots to the finest twigs, then wandered back across the small ripples offshore. Along the waterline, green growth gathered around the weathered trunk. What held me there was the contrast: the tree's broken, irregular shape and the long, uninterrupted horizon, sharing the same quiet space.
