About this piece

A lamp-lined pier stretches across the frame, its repeating supports set against softly blurred surf. Gold and rose light near the horizon gives way to blue overhead, while the curving shoreline brings these colors into the foreground.

The story

I stood near the water’s edge, with the pier running across my view and the brightest color gathered to the left. Each wave softened the boundary between sand and sea. What held my attention was the contrast: the measured spacing of the pilings, the small lights above them, and water that would not keep a shape. I framed the shore as a curve beneath that steady line, leaving room for the sky.
