About this piece

Golden light fills the sky and water around a weathered concrete pillar standing on a low, rocky platform. Its elongated reflection anchors the composition, while dark branches and textured shoreline rocks frame the luminous expanse.

The story

I framed the water beneath the overhanging branches, letting the rough shoreline hold the edge of the image. Across the inlet, the houses seemed small beneath the sweep of gold and gray cloud. What held my attention was the pillar: pale above the rocks, dark in its reflection, steady against the fine movement of the surface. I wanted to keep that contrast between the weight of the shore and the light spreading across the water.
