Small Fires Unfolding

About this piece

Orange blossoms and rounded buds extend from luminous green stems, their curved forms suspended against a softly blurred background. Selective focus draws attention to the open foreground flower, while saturated yellow, orange, and green bring warmth and intensity to the composition.

The story

I moved closer until the surrounding foliage became a wash of green and the small orange flowers filled my view. One bloom faced the lens, its folded petals revealing a deeper red within; the others turned away along their curved stems. I framed them together, drawn to the contrast between what was open and what remained concealed. At this distance, each flower seemed to hold its own quiet source of heat.
