About this piece

Fishing nets, heavy ropes, and yellow floats overflow two metal bins beside a harbor lined with blue and white boats. Strong sunlight draws out the saturated green and orange fibers, setting their intricate tangles against the softer outlines of hulls and masts. A narrow opening between the bins leads the eye toward the water, lending depth to this densely textured waterfront scene.

The story

June light catches the loose strands, turning each loop of orange and green into a bright line. Thick ropes lie across the finer mesh, their worn surfaces holding the weight of repeated use. Between the piled nets, a strip of quay opens toward blue-green water. The boats rest beyond, and the harbor’s working materials become, for a moment, a quiet arrangement of color.
