A stack of hand-painted wooden arrows rises above a waterfront railing, counterbalanced by a bright pink flamingo ornament. Strong daylight reveals the weathered grain and saturated paint, while the low viewpoint sets their playful silhouettes against a blue sky scattered with white clouds.
The story
In the August light, the painted arrows offer a dozen ways to leave. Distant cities become colored letters and numbers on rough boards, each pointing beyond the frame. The pink flamingo stays beside them, its curved neck answering their sharp angles. Below the railing, turquoise water ripples through the narrow spaces between the timbers. For a moment, every journey begins with standing still.
