A Gathering of Masts

Rows of moored sailboats form a fine lattice of masts and rigging beneath a broad, pale sky. Soft daylight picks out white hulls, blue canvas, and the warm stones of the breakwater, while rippled foreground water gives the crowded marina a sense of breathing room.

The story

June light settles across the marina, touching the pale hulls and the stones beyond them. Blue canvas gathers over boats whose sails remain furled. The masts rise at uneven intervals, their slender lines holding the eye between water and sky. Small ripples cross the foreground, offering the only visible suggestion of movement in this sheltered gathering.
