About this piece

Wooded mountain ridges recede in overlapping bands of blue beneath a sky washed with gold, orange, and rose. Dark foreground trees, some nearly bare and others holding rust-colored leaves, anchor the panoramic composition against the luminous distance.

The story

November leaves cling to the nearest branches, their small patches of rust interrupting the blue beyond. Ridge follows ridge until the wooded slopes become little more than lines of color. Above them, a narrow blush of pink opens into gold. The eye moves outward through these quiet intervals, leaving the tangled foreground for the uninterrupted sky.
