About this piece

A wooden watermill and its elevated flume stand beside a still pond, their forms mirrored among reflections of the surrounding trees. In this black-and-white photograph, sunlight picks out branches and weathered timber, while the curving bank and foreground fence draw the eye toward the mill. Fallen leaves and open branches lend the scene a quiet, late-autumn atmosphere.

The story

Early November settles around the pond, spreading leaves across the grass and beneath the fence. Light catches the mill’s wooden boards and traces the wheel against the darker water. Below, a second roof points downward into the reflected trees. The stone path follows the bank out of sight, while the pond holds every visible line almost unbroken.
