Dark, wet stones fill a rocky shore as pale, blurred surf washes between them.

Where Water Softens Stone

MG-1493

Category: Silver Stillness

December 2021

About this piece

Wet stones crowd the foreground, their rounded edges and pitted surfaces catching small, sharp highlights. Pale surf softens into a luminous veil toward the upper left, setting fluid motion against the weight and texture of the shore. The nearly monochrome palette lends the scene a restrained, contemplative atmosphere.

The story

In early December, light gathers on the wet faces of the stones. Water slips through the narrow spaces between them, its movement becoming a pale haze. Each rock holds a different surface to the light: smooth, hollowed, ridged, or rough. The wash returns, and the shore seems to breathe without shifting its weight.
