The story

August light gathers on the water, breaking into bright fragments around the boats. Beneath the bridge, oars reach across the ripples while passengers sit close together in the narrow hulls. Above them, pedestrians punctuate the long ornamental railing. Dense leaves hold the banks in shade, and the arch briefly frames each boat's passage from darkness into light.
