Where Water Keeps Time

About this piece

A timber watermill stands beside a rocky stream, its large wheel framed by stonework and a wooded hillside. The bridge enters from the left in a strong receding diagonal, balancing the mill’s steep gable and weathered siding. Soft light and monochrome tones emphasize the grain of wood and rough masonry against the silky appearance of flowing water.

The story

On the last day of October, the woodland opens into a fine mesh of branches and lingering leaves. Water slips around the rocks, its pale ribbons passing beneath the heavy bridge. The mill stands dark against the hillside, its wheel repeating the circles and crossings of a quieter mechanical world. Along the railings, timber and iron hold their measured lines while the stream continues without a straight edge.
