The story

November light spreads across the uneven field, catching the grass in pale threads. The barn rests low against the hillside, its weathered boards alternating between brightness and shadow. Across the slope, bare branches draw a fine mesh against the open sky. Beyond the fence, ridge after ridge carries the eye away from these small, enduring forms.
