November Holds the Light

The story

Early November spreads gold across the pasture, catching the barn’s rough boards and the ridges of its metal roof. Along the hill, autumn's remaining orange leaves give way to a dense sweep of evergreen green. The large tree at the field’s edge holds its bare branches against the blue, near a faint crescent moon. Shadows reach through the grass, and the small buildings rest between the open field and the shelter of the woods.
