About this piece
A broad curtain of water spans the frame, with smaller cascades, rocky banks, and rustic buildings receding into autumn woodland. Soft daylight gives the falling water a silvery texture, while scarlet and orange foliage fills the right foreground. The strong horizontal sweep of the falls balances the intricate branches and quiet depth of the wooded setting.
The story
On the last day of October, bright leaves still cling to branches beside the falls. Water draws a continuous pale curtain across the scene, gathering into foam below. Beyond it, stone steps climb the bank toward buildings half concealed by trees. The woodland grows spare, its bare limbs showing through the remaining gold and green. Close to the water, the scarlet leaves hold the season’s strongest color.
