The Shape of Endurance

About this piece

A weathered, leafless tree curves across the foreground, its branching silhouette set against distant desert buttes and an expansive sky. Strong sunlight defines the grain of exposed wood, scattered scrub, and vertically furrowed rock faces. The black-and-white composition brings these contrasting textures into a spare, still balance.

The story

September light falls across the bare wood, tracing grooves along its bent trunk. Beyond the tangled branches, stone towers rise from the open plain, separated by broad stretches of pale ground. A broken limb points upward while the trunk sweeps low over the sand. Near and far, wood and rock hold their different shapes beneath the same clear sky.
