About this piece

An upward view into a slot canyon reveals layered sandstone walls enclosing an irregular ribbon of blue sky. Light draws orange and gold from the projecting curves, while recessed surfaces deepen into rose and violet. The close framing turns geological texture into an enveloping composition of folds, edges, and luminous space.

The story

September light reaches into the narrow opening, catching the stone along its curling edges. The eye follows one fine layer, then another, until the wall seems to bend like heavy cloth. Deep within the folds, violet shade holds against the orange glow. Above, a clear strip of blue offers a quiet release from the enclosing rock.
