About this piece

A narrow coastal road recedes between coconut palms, with breaking surf and dark shoreline rocks to the left and dense foliage to the right. Sunlight brightens the grass and fronds beneath a cloud-filled blue sky, while the road’s gentle bend draws the eye into a quiet, unoccupied distance.

The story

Late November finds this shoreline green beneath an open, luminous sky. Waves fold into white foam along the dark rocks, close to the road’s grassy edge. Above them, palm trunks rise at differing angles, their fronds overlapping in fine green lines. The pavement curves out of sight, leaving the next stretch of coast just beyond view.
