A long pier stretches across the composition beneath sweeping bands of coral, peach, and lavender sky. Its repeating supports contrast with the softened movement of breaking waves, while wet sand carries the sky’s warm color into the foreground.
The story
I framed the pier from the beach, letting its long line lead away from the shore. Beneath it, the water broke into small, uneven waves, each carrying a little of the color overhead. What held my attention was the thin wash spreading across the sand: for a moment, it seemed brighter than the sky itself. I wanted to keep that meeting of solid structure and passing light, with the people on the pier small against both.
