Mike Gedj presents a close portrait of a white ibis balanced on a dark wooden railing. Fine feather textures and the bird’s curved red bill stand out against softly blurred greenery, while the diagonal rail gives structure to its upright stance.
The story
I found my frame in the contrast between the worn timber and the ibis’s white plumage. Its toes followed the uneven surface of the railing, small points of contact beneath a generous sweep of feathers. Through the viewfinder, the greenery softened, leaving the pale eye and curved bill to hold my attention. I wanted to keep that simple balance: a bird occupying an ordinary railing with a presence that made the surroundings feel secondary.
