Gold Among Green

About this piece

Mike Gedj isolates a cluster of golden-yellow flowers among small, glossy leaves, holding their folded petals and water droplets in focus. Slender branches trace vertical lines through the composition, while the surrounding foliage dissolves into deep green.

The story

I moved closer until the surrounding foliage became a soft field of green. Along one slender branch, the yellow flowers held small beads of water, their petals folding over one another in uneven layers. I wanted to keep those details—the dark mark at a petal’s edge, the mottled leaf below—beside the brightness. In the frame, a small cluster of blossoms became enough to hold my attention.
