A Blush of Green

About this piece

Mike Gedj frames a radial cluster of slender green leaves surrounding pink-tinted growth and unopened buds. Fine pale edges define the foliage, while shallow depth of field dissolves the background into soft green, yellow, and coral tones.

The story

I stopped at the small patch of pink held between the longer leaves. Around it, the foliage spread in every direction, each pale edge catching enough light to remain distinct. Looking through the camera, I let the surrounding branches soften until their colors mattered more than their shapes. What held my attention was the center: a handful of closed buds, sheltered by green, with just enough warmth to draw me closer.
