About this piece
Seen from behind, a twin-engine jet occupies a small portion of the frame beneath a broad, billowing vapor cloud. Bright white vapor shades into blue-gray folds, contrasting with the aircraft’s dark outline and narrow wings. The expansive blue sky lends stillness to a scene of concentrated motion.
The story
On this second day of January, the sky offers a field of uninterrupted blue. A dark aircraft holds a thin horizontal line within a swelling veil of white. Light catches the upper vapor while its lower folds deepen toward the color of the surrounding air. At the opening of the year, the moment feels suspended: a solid shape passing through something already coming apart.
