About this piece
A gray fighter jet cuts diagonally across a clear blue sky, its wings partly veiled by white condensation. Sunlight catches the canopy and metal surfaces, while trailing ribbons of vapor extend toward the lower right, balancing the aircraft's sharply defined geometry with fleeting, fluid forms.
The story
On January 2, the year is barely underway, and the sky offers an unbroken field of blue. Light flashes across the canopy as a white veil gathers over the wings. Two thin streams unwind behind the aircraft, making the movement of air briefly visible. The nose points into open space; the vapor softens everything it leaves behind.
