About this piece

A long bridge recedes across green-blue water, its weathered arches forming a diminishing rhythm toward the horizon. Utility lines trace a parallel course beneath an expansive cloud bank, while a narrow band of orange light separates sea from sky.

The story

I framed the bridge from close to the water, letting its arches lead my eye toward the thin seam of orange on the horizon. Beside it, the utility poles marked another route into the distance, with birds resting along the wires. What held me was the contrast in scale: small waves filling the foreground, heavy clouds opening overhead, and these two human-made lines drawing steadily toward the same distant light.
