About this piece

A solitary white egret occupies the right side of the frame, its long legs rising from a rugged coastal rock. Sunlight defines the folded feathers and curved neck, while soft bands of turquoise water and breaking surf contrast with the sharply textured foreground.

The story

I framed the bird against the open blue, leaving room in the direction of its gaze. Its feet rested on the uneven rock, and the folded curve of its neck caught the light. Behind it, a white line of surf crossed the water. What held my attention was the contrast in scale: the broad sea, the heavy stone, and this slender presence, so precisely balanced between them.
