A long wooden pier draws the eye from the rocky shore toward a moored boat and the open horizon. Clear shallows reveal the sandy bottom, while reflections of the pilings form a loose rhythm beneath the broad, cloud-filled sky.
The story
I framed the pier from the water’s edge, keeping the pale sand beneath the shallows in view. Its posts made a measured line toward the boat, but their reflections softened with every ripple. Above them, the clouds seemed to belong to a much larger, slower world. I wanted to hold both scales in the photograph: the small shelter of a mooring and the spacious blue beyond it.
