A pale, stony shore arcs toward a mangrove whose branching canopy and exposed roots interrupt the open horizon. Rendered in black and white, the scene balances the fine textures of rock and wood against broad expanses of water and cloud.
The story
I framed the shore so that its curve would lead toward the tree, leaving the open water room to breathe. Small ripples traced the edge of the stones, while the roots formed a dark tangle just above the surface. What held my attention was the difference between those lines: water spreading outward, branches reaching sideways, roots gathering inward. I wanted the photograph to hold them together without disturbing the quiet.
