About this piece

Overlapping paper lanterns fill the frame, their ribbed surfaces forming a repeated pattern across bands of saturated color. Seen from below, warm yellows and reds give way to cooler blues, purples, and greens, while dark bases punctuate the composition.

The story

I looked up and let the lanterns take the place of the sky. From beneath them, each color seemed to lead into another: yellow into orange, red into blue, then green at the edges. I framed the view tightly, leaving almost nothing beyond their rounded forms. What held my attention was the balance between abundance and order, the way so many bright surfaces could become one continuous rhythm.
