Mike Gedj frames a lattice of slender stems and blade-like leaves against a luminous turquoise field. Selective focus separates crisp golden lines from softer green forms, bringing the vegetation close to abstraction.
The story
I looked between the leaves rather than beyond them. From this close, the stems crossed like fine threads, each catching a different measure of light. The turquoise behind them gave the smallest details room to stand out: a pale tip, a warm orange edge, the dark seam of a leaf. I held the frame around those intersections, drawn to the way a dense patch of growth could become something so open and spare.
