A Small Unfolding

About this piece

A pale pink bloom rises between pointed purple leaves, their finely textured surfaces set against luminous green palm fronds. Selective focus separates the flower and surrounding foliage from the broad, repeating bands behind them, balancing delicate detail with sweeping botanical form.

The story

I was drawn first to the green, to the way the fronds divided the background into long bands of light and shadow. Then I noticed the small pink flower held between purple leaves. I framed it slightly off center, leaving room for those larger rhythms to continue around it. Through the lens, the contrast became the moment: a tiny, tender opening against foliage that seemed to fill the world.
