Small Scarlet Fires

About this piece

Scarlet floral forms punctuate a network of reddish stems, their rounded surfaces catching the light against deep green foliage. Selective focus draws the eye toward the right-hand cluster, while softer blooms and a broad foreground leaf give the composition depth.

The story

I moved closer until the surrounding foliage became a wash of green and the small red forms held my attention completely. Each faced a slightly different direction, catching enough light to reveal its curved surface and dark, glossy center. I framed the branching stems beside the broad leaf, letting the softer flowers remain in view. What drew me was that contrast: such vivid color, held within the quiet structure of a plant.
