The story

I stood near the waterline, watching the gold break into small pieces across the waves. Above me, people leaned over the pier railings, their fishing rods tracing fine lines against the sky. I framed the pier stretching away and left room for the open sea beside it. As a low wave folded onto the sand, its white edge briefly separated the reflected sky from the shore.
