Violet Above the Water

About this piece

A violet water lily opens above a pond surface layered with blue reflections, submerged stems, and patterned leaves. Pale highlights illuminate the petals, while the rounded lily pads create a loose rhythm across the lower frame.

The story

I looked down into the pond and found two worlds sharing the same surface: the dark tangle beneath the water and the blue light reflected above it. Between them, the lily held its violet petals open. I framed the flower to one side, leaving room for the mottled leaves and the long green stems. What drew me closer was that meeting of clarity and confusion, a single bloom giving shape to everything around it.
