Lifeguard tower 17 rises above textured sand, its angular stairs and supports set against a luminous ocean horizon. A solitary palm balances the structure while golden light traces the clouds, contrasting with their deep blue-gray shadows.

The story

I framed the tower against the low sun, leaving room for the clouds to fill most of the sky. The stairs made a dark diagonal across the gold, and the palm stood apart at the edge of the sand. What held my attention was the contrast: a structure built for vigilance beneath a sky indifferent to schedules. With no lifeguard on duty, the tower seemed to be watching only the light.
