About this piece

Three broken concrete forms trace a diagonal through shallow green water beneath an amber sky. Mike Gedj frames their rough surfaces against rippling reflections and white surf, balancing the stillness of the remnants with the movement of the sea.

The story

I framed the three remnants as a line leading away from the shore, letting the nearest one anchor the open water. Around them, each small wave drew a different boundary in white. The low sun scattered gold across the shallows, revealing textures beneath the surface before another ripple loosened them. I was drawn to that contrast: the broken forms holding their places while the water continually changed the picture around them.
