Sunlight illuminates the rounded leaves, setting their smooth surfaces against the coarse texture of a woody branch. The diagonal composition and softly blurred background draw attention to the alternating pockets of shadow and luminous green.

The story

I was drawn to the way light passed through these small leaves, making each one distinct against the green beyond. Following the branch through the frame, I found a rhythm of rounded shapes and rough bark, brightness and shade. I kept the surrounding foliage soft so that this small section could hold my attention completely. For a moment, the whole place seemed contained in the light along a leaf’s edge.
