Before the Unfolding

About this piece

Orange-red buds gather in a compact cluster above a sunlit green leaf, where water beads catch the light. A shallow depth of field isolates their pointed forms, setting vivid botanical detail against a softened background of green and brown.

The story

I came close enough for the surrounding foliage to dissolve into color. The buds were still closed, their orange tips gathered above the broad green leaf. What held my attention was the drop at its edge: a small, clear weight suspended beside all that vivid color. I framed the cluster to leave room for it, drawn to the contrast between the crowded buds and that single bead of water.
