The story

At July’s end, light gathers along the edges of the clouds and spills between the palms. Small waves reach the curved beach, laying thin bands of gold across the sand. A fallen trunk rests at the waterline, its pale surface bright against the shaded shore. Beyond the rocks, the sea holds a level horizon beneath the immense, illuminated sky.
