An Arc of Gold

About this piece

Mike Gedj’s close-up photograph follows a slender blade of grass carrying rounded droplets along its curve. Fine green and reddish striations contrast with the soft golden field, while reflections below extend the arrangement into a second, less distinct arc.

The story

I let the curve of the grass guide my eye, moving from one bead of water to the next. Each droplet held a small distortion of the gold around it, while the reflections below seemed almost ready to dissolve. Through the lens, this slender crossing filled the frame. I wanted to keep both its delicacy and its weight: the fine blade bending, the water holding on.
