About this piece

Light passing through a broad leaf reveals a luminous yellow-green surface crossed by branching veins. Mike Gedj’s close framing emphasizes the leaf’s structure, setting its substantial central rib against the delicate texture of translucent tissue.

The story

I looked beneath the leaf and found the light gathered there, turning its broad surface into a green canopy. From this close, the veins seemed to stretch far beyond the frame, while the thicker rib gave my eye a path to follow. I wanted to hold that balance between strength and translucence: the firm lines supporting something so thin that daylight could pass through it and reveal its smallest folds.
