Viewed from the waterfront near its northern end, the Golden Gate Bridge traces a red arc between blue sky and pale, rippling water. The pier, rocky shoreline, and moored boats establish an intimate foreground beneath the monumental span.
The story
I framed the bridge with enough water below it to let the eye linger before rising to the towers. Along the pier, small figures gave the great span a human scale; to the right, the boats sat close against their docks. What held my attention was the meeting of these different rhythms: the repeated cables, the uneven hillside, and the fine ripples spreading across the foreground.
