Yellow-green leaves and red stems reflect in a glossy surface against a vivid purple background.

Where Color Takes Root

About this piece

Luminous yellow-green leaves extend from red-orange stems above a reflective surface, their inverted forms filling the lower frame. Fine veins emerge in the translucent foliage, while shallow focus softens surrounding shapes into saturated violet and gold. The close composition balances botanical detail with an almost abstract intensity of color.

The story

In this June image, light gathers inside the leaves until their fine veins become visible. A red stem bends toward the reflective surface, where another branch seems to rise in reply. Purple fills the spaces between them, holding each bright edge apart. The eye follows a leaf downward into its reflection, and for a moment the plant appears to grow in two directions.
