About this piece
A water lily fills the right side of the frame, its pointed outer petals surrounding a dense cluster of orange stamens. Concentrated light renders the petals in luminous yellow and green against a nearly black background, giving the layered bloom a sculptural presence. The broad darkness to the left lends stillness to its radiating form.
The story
In late May, a single bloom gathers the light into its folded center. Yellow brightens toward gold, while the outer petals recede into green shadow. Slender orange stamens rise between the petals, each with its own small curve. Beyond this illuminated flower, the surroundings fall away, leaving a quiet measure of the day's light.
